RUE DU CURE

So I got back from Köln earlier this week and pretty much as soon as I got back, I headed back out again to grab a sushi dinner with Kristiana. We decided to snap a few outfit photos along the Rue du Cure before heading into Sushi Shop. Mind you, without the simple touches of what I think of as sophistication, I would have very much felt like I was working in the countryside because of this simple white T-shirt and stone-coloured maxi skirt pairing. But throw on a few accessories; dress it down; dress it up and you can have a variety of outfits for different occasions. Earlier in the day I wore this to travel in but instead of a blazer I had thrown on a comfy jumper. This is the beauty of wearing basics and building on them as you go about your day.

LAST DAY IN SCOTLAND

So, this was from my last day in Scotland. Mama and I went to our usual café to have the special Tea for Two offer. I decided to pair my studded collar shirt with my new jumper from Topshop. I also slipped my feet into my new boots from New Look - I absolutely love the metal detail on the toes and heels. They are great for when you want to wear maxi skirts in the winter as that gold toe detail peeps through the bottom of the skirt to add that extra oomph. I was actually not sure about buying the boots because I spotted a really lovely pair in the H&M showroom album that Kristiana posted on her FB page. The boots are H&M divided so I am hoping that they will be relatively affordable as now I look back, the New Look cutout boots seem no match to the thicker heeled, sturdier looking divided boot. I will be moving to Brussels in a week's time so I will definitely be keeping my googley eyes wide open for the new collection.

IN KÖLN AGAIN

I took a flight from EDI to CGN yesterday to see the Manfriend. It was such a shock going from 14°C weather to 25°C!!! We had quite a lazy start to the day but eventually pulled ourselves together to head down to get some ice cream and sit in the Aachener Weiher park to soak up the sun. I wore a simple print skirt and plain white top combo (it was clearly way to hot for this blazer) and my worn-out Toms. How have I never bought a pair before? They are definitely the perfect summer shoe.

XX VIII MMXIII

We went up to Carlisle again yesterday and this is what I wore. I suddenly developed a HUGE obsession with the jumper + maxi skirt combo. It has been quite cold up here in Scotland so it keeps me cosy. I bought this hat in Miss Selfridge yesterday because I lost my other one (in this post) around campus somewhere. I was so sad that I trekked around for it for weeks - I really need to stop being so attached to items of clothing. I decided to jazz up this outfit with my Zara necklace. It is so easy to go a little too over the top with this necklace but it is the perfect one to complete a very monochromatic outfit. I think back to when I first saw it in-store and I cannot believe I ever "umm-ed" and "ah-ed". I really want to wear it all day, everyday. I would even jazz up my PJs with this badboy of a necklace.

PACK UP YOUR TROUBLES IN YOUR FILOFAX

So a little while back I was contacted about participating in a blogger competition for Filofax. Naming it The Original Fashion Decade, bloggers had to dedicate a look to a certain decade in fashion and I chose the 40s. It was a tough decade for British companies. Filofax's grounds were destroyed in the Blitz and along with it, all its records. Almost all hope was lost. But one woman, Grace Scurr, had kept names and addresses filed away in her own Filofax and with that she rebuilt the company fighting against the doubts voiced by the people around her. My father suggested that I use my British grandmother's hat which she wore while enlisted in the army. I felt somewhat emotional when I had finished my hair/make up, put on my outfit and placed the hat on my head. I tried to imagine what it must have been like to live back then. So, even though I have never done this before I dedicate this particular blog post to the women of the 40s.

PS, I would also appreciate your 'Like' on these photos (here and here) from the Filofax facebook album. The winner gets to host a giveaway!
